Brutal but true…keep reading.
Look as a military officer, I was forced to study The Art Of War. It had a huge impact on me…let me tell ya. It was so impactful, I can’t remember one damn quote. I know it is a masterpiece, but I don’t care. I was forced to read it, and being a little bit rebellious I guess that is where it all went wrong for me.
Then a dirt eating, ground-pounding Grunt rearranged the title…
The War Of Art
And I read every freakin’ word. And now I live it.
It was the swift kick in the pants I needed. We all need. Wouldn’t be the first time an enlisted guy taught me a lesson.
You see, High Speed, there is a deadly enemy attacking us right now.
Now this enemy doesn’t have IEDs, wear an enemy uniform, but make no mistake – it is THE ENEMY. And it has inflicted more damage on men and women on a daily basis than all the wars of history combined.
This enemy is invisible and lethal. It keeps us distracted. It molds us into complete…amateurs.
Have you ever started a diet and then quit? Or you bought a $297 course online and didn’t go through one video? Joined an opportunity and never got if off the ground? Then started another business and jumped ship in no time flat?
That is called Resistance. Resistance distracts us and prevents us from doing our work…doing what we were meant to do.
And in the his book, The War of Art, Author Steven Pressfield lays it out straight he says, “Most of us have two lives. The life we live, and the unlived life within us. Between the two stands Resistance.”
We must kill this enemy…this Resistance. It is a daily battle.
Let me give you an example how Resistance has toyed with me…
I owned this very website for two years. People said the name was cool, badass, etc. I didn’t write one freakin’ blog post for two years. I could give you all the BS reasons….but Resistance kicked my ass. It set me back.
But not anymore because I’m doing the work, but it’s still a daily fight.
Just incase you didn’t know, Pressfied (we don’t call ground-pounders by their first name as you well know) has written other books. Books that are studied at West Point, Annapolis, The Marine Corps Basic School at Quantico and the Naval War College. He is certified 100% grade A ass kicker.
Now let his book serve as a swift kick in YOUR ass to get moving…and get moving now! Your unlived life needs to live.
In The War Of Art, Pressfield outlines the fight of the artist, but it applies to the budding entrepreneur, the gal looking to bolt from the corporate world, and for all men and women who finally want to make it big.
Think about it…
What keeps you from starting that business? Resistance. What has put on those extra 20 pounds? Resistance. What prevents you from reaching out to that mentor when you want advice from and possibly a shot at the title, Millionaire? It isn’t skepticism. It’s Resistance. And it cripples you, and you let it. Stop being an amateur. Get The War Of Art.
As Pressfield states, “To yield to Resistance deforms our spirit. It stunts us and makes us less than we are and were born to be.”
If you are going to start any type of business, you will have to Go Pro as he states. In a home based business, you have to make it happen. Resistance will strike daily. Listen to Steven Pressfield because he shows a step by step plan to tackle this enemy.
This is one of the best books you can ever read, especially if you are all tangled up with the thousands of “self help” books that are really good at getting us all charged to go out and do uhmm…NOTHING.
